CREATURE OF A DIFFERENT MIND
Our latest poetry collection is now available! If you’re torn between what version to get, the print version is illustrated, the ebook is not. Unfortunately, illustrations make the file size too large for an ebook.
This poetry book is a little different than the previous one. The previous poetry collection was written solely by the female half of our writing duo. This book, however, has a poem from the male half. It also has poems from my father and a friend of the family.
SHORT STORIES VS NOVELS
Writing a collection of fantasy and sci-fi short stories has been an interesting undertaking. Both short stories and novels are powerful vehicles for storytelling, but they occupy very different creative territories.
Short stories are usually 1, 000 – 7, 500 words (though they’re often under 5 ,000). A short story is essentially a literary photograph—it captures a precise emotion, revelation. incident, or moment. Because space is limited, short stories rely on implication and economy. Obviously, a novel unfolds over time, allowing for broader world‑building and layered storytelling.
Writing short stories is a very different beast as you don’t have much time or space to develop the plot, or the characters, or even the story for that matter. In a short story, the protagonist’s change is usually distilled into a pivotal moment and its thematic impact has to be immediate and striking. It’s an interesting exercise. Our goal is to make each story interesting and thought provoking, and we’re learning interesting ways to accomplish that.
Short stories and full‑length novels each offer unique creative rewards. The former demand precision, intensity, and a razor‑sharp focus on a single idea while the latter invite expansive world‑building, intricate plotting, and prolonged character evolution.
AUTHOR SHOWCASES
We’ll also be doing a couple of local author showcases this year with local and regional libraries. As always, we’re grateful for our amazing reader base and we’d love to see you at an event!
